Offbrand psu blew up I think

I was playing fortnite for about 20 minutes with my psu that had about 30 minutes of use on it and I think it sparked and blew up. I said I think because I am pretty sure it was the thing that blew up because when I felt the power cord it was hot. It’s a offbrand psu the brand is KDM. Is it safe to turn it back on? Could it have destroyed any other parts? And there is no cosmetic damage on the outside but is there a way to find out if it blew up by looking in the inside? And not gonna lie it blowing up about made me ---- my self

Only way to know is to change for a known working PSU.

I would not power that unit even if it was new. Besides burning itself, it could damage your components or even cause a fire.
The last component you should never, ever go cheap on is the component that could damage all others.

Do NOT try to turn it on again. While it may be dead and nothing will happen, it is also possible that something on the primary side blew out, which could short dangerous voltages to the outputs (one way other parts may have been killed).
You will need to replace the PSU, and possibly other parts as well. Did you build this system? Please list the parts used, so we can determine a good choice for a replacement PSU for you.

The cpu is a fx 8320 and the gpu is a 970 ssc. I have 4 4gb ram sticks and the motherboard is a gigabyte ga78lmt r2

You could smell the exhaust fan. It will smell burnt!

I'm surprised the FX-8320 is even supported on that board. A good 500W-550W should be sufficient to run that system. My own preferred brand is Seasonic, but an EVGA G2, B2, or P2 would also be good.

Your first problem was running an 8 core 125w FX chip on that junk board. The junk PSU is icing on the cake. Make sure you have a downdraft cooler (like the stock style) to cool the VRMS to keep that board stable.

And hopefully that PSU didn't damage anything else its very possible. No way to tell without testing with a known good PSU. DO NOT turn it back on with the busted old one.

I’m a bit scared to turn on my pc after my old power supply blew up (at least I think it was the part the blew up but I don’t know how to check). The old one was a bad brand, kdm, with 680w. My new one is a evga 500w 80+ w power supply. I am pretty sure this on is a bit safer and more reliable. Should I just go for it and turn it on? Is there anything to worry about?

Theres no way to know unless you try. Plug it in and turn it on its worth a shot. If you got a good brand PSU it will have protections.

I got a new power supply the evga 500watt 80+ after my old one blew up. The old one was a cheap 680 wat one. I am afraid to turn my pc on because I think it might have damaged the parts and something bad might happen. Should I just go for it and turn it on?
