Office 2000/windows 7 compatibility

Hello,
I can's run my Microsoft Office 2000 (which I like because I'm used to it and does everything I need)on my new laptop with windows 7. It installs but menu bar is missing and when I click to start a new documnet it says 'not responding'.

Office 2000 is not supported by Win 7, but you may be able to get it to run in XP Compatability mode.

You may have to bite the bullet and get Office 2010 since 2000 doesn't work with Windows 7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?l=en-us&type=Software&s=office%202000). Like Hang-the-9 said, you can try running it in XP Mode if you have Windows 7 Professional, but it might be better to just get a newer Office suite to take advantage of the features of Windows 7.
