Hi I need to build an office computer for myself since I just got an office. I am keeping my main computer at my home it is on ivy bridge i5 gtx 670 8gb ram. I have figured <200 GBP is enough(no GPU, have a monitor and HDD already) but DDR4 cost seems to be the only big difference between the two systems. At the minute the pc is going to be for browsing internet, printing, book keeping, word docs etc, online poker , however will likely need it for light web development and possibly light app development within a year.
I am thinking that now could be the perfect time to get an entry level modern system with max upgrade path to make this my main computer in the future since the ivy bridge one cant really be upgraded as far or should i just go with the older haswell i5 ddr3 build anyway and save a bit of money?
I can get a used i5 4430 or a skylake i3 6100 for the same price. I suspect the i3 will be enough but now the only real difference is that haswell uses cheaper ddr3 20 GBP for used 8GB or kaby lake DDR 4 is 60GBP for 8GB or 30 GBP for 4GB. I am leaning towards the newer build but dont know if its necessary or worth it. What do you guys think? Thanks
