i have used this and other versions of word for many years so i am familiar with how tables work , the example i have shown below is to demonstrate the problem i have encountered.
As you can see the sample is made up of 2 columns so lets imagine i add the word brass to column 2 , before doing the column sort it will be below concrete , i highlight column 2 to do sort column 2 and they will be placed in the proper alphabetical order.
My problem is ...... the numbers in column 1 also change position just as if they were tagged to the words ....... this is not supposed to happen

In the Sort dialog box, click on Options
Select the col you want o sort by, and also select "Sort Column Only"

OK
Do the sort again

Tables in Word are a very cut down version of tables in Excel.
