Hi everyone,

I am looking for an official paper that´s listing all characters which will not cause any issue with any device (no matter how old; just SSID-related). Since some elder devices (e.g. the first Amazon Kindle) have issues with some UTF-8 chars (like "ä/ö/ü/...") I need to know if all standard US-ASCII chars (especially the "@") will work fine (and that´s the case according to my research, just need it written down on an official paper, e.g. from IEEE). Unfortunately I cannot find any paper about that topic - can you help me here?

Thanks!

That is all part of 802.11 which defines wifi standards. Getting IEEE documents for free tends to be very hard. Almost all are locked away behind some pay walls. Some universities have access but only from their internal network. You might get lucky and someone published a small part that covers what you want. Not sure IEEE enforces copyright so it is very hard to get the documents without paying for them.
