So how good is that gaming rig of yours? I thought I was sitting pretty until I downloaded this Far Cry demo... dont get me wrong, my machine is doing well in the game, but not as well as I would have thought. Critics say that this is as close to HL2 as anybodies seen, and the game is beautiful, it's supposed to use lot's of DX9 pixel shader 2.0, but the jury's still out on that one, I'm trying to find out. The grass/tree's/vegetation all sway in the wind, just like the 3DMark "nature" game test's. I have been playing with AA & AF set to "aplication" in my 9800's control panel, and I've got everything else(including in game settings) set to 'high quality' You can see my framerates in the images I snapped during gameplay(using Fraps) If you like alot of M16/sniper/gatlin shooting action, and interaction with vehicles(just like BF1942) the this game is really worth the 500mb download. This demo is an excellent indicator, I believe, of what we have coming, as far as graphics stressing games are concerned.
For some of you, this might be an indicator that it's time to upgrade your card.

It took me a day and a half to find a server to download this demo from, and when I did find one, I waited in line 2hrs for a crappy 60kbps stream. Luckily for everyone looking now, nVidia is hosting it, and their pipe is fat as phvck.http://www.nvidia.com/object/nzone_farcry_downloads.html

Well, I heard that the game was coded in nVidia's CG, so it was pretty much made to run on your card. When you get it downloaded and running, be sure to report back with your framerates & findings. The only people I know who are playing the demo all have ATi hardware, and I'm curious to hear an FX owners perspective:)

Cool, will do... may not be for a few days though :(
Err... latest "pretty" game i have been running is Prince of Persia, 30FPS average with 100Hz refresh on both 1024x768 (4xAF, 2xQ AA) and 1600x1200 (no AA/AF)
Thats fine with a 3rd person romp, but i am concerned that will be a bit slow for a first person shoot-a-thon.

Interesting about being coded for cg though. Just sorted my mate out with a 9600XT and i really hope i can pull ahead of that beauty or he will laugh and i will cry! :D

I treied to download it yesterday morning (EliteBa$..) had it up on monday. But it crashed halfway through the download (while in the shower before work), and then the servers were full. Glad to hear it's worthwhile.

Kinda reminds me of what Stalker's supposed to look like.

Thanks for the tip about nV's pipe (for once they have more pipes than the competition, Oh Zing!

Downloading (AGAIN!) now.

I was wondering whether anyone else had been waiting for this game. I was happy to see a demo available so soon. Took me 30minutes to download it from gamespot and I've beaten the demo a couple times already using different routs each time. Above all I was impressed how well my card ran the game. Some of you may already know I only have a Geforce2 GTS, and yet with video settings set to medium for everything and the res at 800x600 32bit the game ran perfectly smooth. I didnt notice a single slow down in frames in all the time I've played the game. Granted I can tell I'm missing some of the special effects such as the water ripples and I'm sure other things. However the indoor areas didn't appear to use much of any special effects that my card wasn't able to render. I've watched the dozen or more videos of the game from gamespot so I know what the game is meant to look like and I'm pleased to see my card rendering it so well with out even a single slow down. I'll use fraps and see just what my frame rates are.

waht are you talkin about man, r u stupid, there pipe is fat, hell no man im only getting 280k dl speeds here.

j/k kidding the game is a beautiful game man ur right.

I second Oh man...Far Cry. Those screen shoots look sensational, better than even Chrome. I'm downloading right know on a 56K modem!!! Should take a few days.

I downloaded it yesterday. Fast download with cable. Have you gone swimimg? About half way up the hill you shoot the yellow barrel it explodes. Tried to take out chopper but that did not work. Have you used the sniper rifle?

Downloaded it about 45 mins after replying to GW (the nV pipe gave me 146kB/s), just haven't installed it yet.

Downloading from Nvidia (Im in the UK though, only getting ~40kbps, and im capped at about 60). Be interesting to see how it runs on my Ti4200 (hopefully as good as HWBoss says  ). Im looking for a good excuse to upgrade and if this isnt smooth at 1280x1024, I could have found it.

I just read a post on NV News that says this game uses pixel shader 2.0 on ATi cards, and pixel shader 1.1 on all Nvidia hardware, including FX cards.
Your Ti 4200 should do well....let us know!

I tried it last night on my 4200, started with autodetect settings, and it was sluggish, but its probably my measly cpu holding me back. Rolled back to 800X600 low detail and it seemed to run fine...for some reason Fraps wouldn't show up on the screen as it usually does, didn't look into it though....

By the way, nV's pipe is very freaking fat, I was getting over 750KB/s, took under 10min.

Thanks, got it from NVidia, averaged 532KB/sec Not bad at all. I'll give it a try. I honestly never heard of this game. Your screenshots look great though.

Oh my God, Does this game look awesome! Downloaded it from Fileshack, took 1 hour with my DSL. Definitely worth the wait though.

Running a P4 3.0 HT, 1Gig DDR333 and Nvidia FX5950 Ultra. Used auto detect in video setup and it gave me very high settings for everything and I used 1280x1024x32. There were a few artifacts here and there, but the frame rates were very smooth.

I loved the silenced submachine gun, couldn't hear a thing while firing it, not like the sniper rifle. The gatling guns in various locations pump out some serious lead. When you are carrying the sniper rifle, notice the lense, it picks up the field of view, that was too cool!

I would recommend this to any FPS out there. Can't wait for the game to come out.

I turned AA on but it doesn't seem to be working. I've tried the Cat 3.9 and 3.10 and can't make it work. Another driver issue? Other than that it looks awesome and plays perfectly 1280x1024x32 all details. Have you tried the 4.1 drivers yet?
