Oh no... I need a bracket?

my new pc will be arriving today from newegg. one of my items is a samsung 830 256gb SSD. Im reading the reviews about it on new egg now and i saw a couple people post about buying some kind of adapter/bracket needed to install this? Im putting it in a InWin GRone case. my question is,do i really need to go buy something to install this? if so,will walmart or office depot have this?please help because i need to order this online asap if i do need somthing and stores dont sell it around me. thanks <3

Hi there,

An SSD is just a generic 2.5 HD shape. The case description says: Hot-Swap Drive Bays: 3.5"/2.5" SATA HDD EZ-Swap x 1 -- so I am betting it will fit there.

Edit: Just looked at the case more closely: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108423&name=Computer-Cases If I linked the right one it looks like all the bays are compatible with either 2.5 or 3.5 drives and will work fine.

whether or not you need a bracket depends on the case setup.

For what it's worth, an SSD has no moving parts, and as a very temporary solution you can place it somewhere and secure it with tape. Just be sure no connections are shorting or anything like that (though SSDs are usually fully enclosed).

If your case comes, and you find you need the bracket, you can secure it somewhere and order one online. Walmart/officedepot probably wouldn't have them.

Anyone who builds computers might have one sitting around though (friends or stores), most modern cases have a 2.5" mount somewhere and many SSDs come with the bracket, so I've got 3 or 4 sitting around at home. Be sure your SSD will line up with the holes, I'm not sure if they are standard or not (I think they are, though).

Ah OK everyone thanks so much for the help. I was starting time stress out lol.this is my first ever build. One last thing,my case don't have tie down points being the motherboard tray. Can I use electrical tape to hold down the wires If I want to?? Thanks!

I assume you meant behind the motherboard? You can do whatever you want to hold things in place, however I don't think electrical tape would hold those wires very well.

Zip ties work very well (wire-ties work too), if you can find a place to zip to. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt to let things hang out back there, but it can create a hastle putting the side panel on. You can pretty much do whatever you want to secure things, as long as it doesn't damage the wires, short connections, or bend stuff.

I wouldn't use tape - the heat will melt it and then it will be gooey when you try to adjust cabling.

I've always been happiest with twist-ties - they are easy to adjust when you want to move things around, and dont really clutter up the case. Zip ties work well too, but are a little harder to work with. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so I often end up rerouting everything like 10 times ... but honestly its not a big deal if things float a little. Wires only slow down airflow a little bit.

I would use something like this on the back, then zip tie to it.

I am not recommending this exact thing. You can get then at any hardware store(same section as the tie wraps). The ones I have hold on VERY well and keep the ATX main cable from moving.
