I am trying to do clean install on my girlfriends HP laptop, i have a copy of windows XP home with her serial number,

When I put the disk in and boot from CD the windows installer runs up to the point when i can format the HDD, however this says that there is not a HDD to format?

Now it is i believe a sata drive however the mobo sata drivers i would have thought are already on the machine as it has a working install of XP at the moment.

Any help greatly appreciated

at the beginning of install your asked to press f6 I think to install any 3rd party drivers, you need to install your SATA drivers there so that the install will recognise the drive, once it formats the drive then if you have not install the drivers where do you want it to get the drivers from? they will be deleted during format, so you have to install the drivers at install ;)
