I have a Dell XPS 8700 with 4th Generation Intel(R) Core(T M) i7-4790 processor (8M Cache , up to 4.0 GHz), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 4GB DDR 3, a 1TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive, and 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz (4GBx4). I play world of Warcraft and multibox 5 instances of the game, and wondered if anything on the dell XPS 8700 could be upgraded to run better and faster.
I was told that
"You should be able to upgrade your GPU - many people running GTX 970's in that setup. Your CPU & RAM don't need to be touched, they're slightly older but still at the 'upper end' performance-wise. The biggest problem you're going to have with upgrading the GPU, is the OEM PSU. "
so I did a little searching online and saw this video "Upgrading a Dell XPS 8700 with a GTX 970 GPU and Crucial M550 mSATA SSD" http:// after watching I decided to also add a mSATA SSD. Now he claims that he didn't have to upgrade the power source and in his comments on this and other video he still says he didn't have to upgrade but I see where others say that it will go bad in the long run if he dosent upgrade it.
so, I decided to go with the following......
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC Gaming ACX 2.0+ Cooling Graphics Card (04G-P4-3975-KR) http://
SeaSonic 650-Watt ATX12V/EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply SSR-650RM http://
Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB mSATA 2-Inch SSD (MZ-M5E250BW) http://
Ok so you think this will work? from what I read I think it will!
Thanks for reading!
