Hey guys, I'm coming into some money from a project soon and could really use building a decent PC. I'm a total amateur but I've been reading up a lot lately and I'm super getting into the idea of building my own, so I've been learning a lot.

I'm mainly gonna be using it for art/graphic design (Adobe Suite), and maybe some art streaming here and there. Light gaming too, but I'm not a PC gamer so I won't be playing anything really labour-intensive (The Long Dark and Subautica mainly). My gf will want to be playing Elder Scrolls Online on it but that's about the top end of what it'll be doing. Hope you guys can help out cos there are a few things I haven't chosen, like... a motherboard, haha. I know I'm wanting a micro-ATX with 1151 socket but other than that I need some help choosing a decent one in my price range.

The parts I've chosen so far are:
CPU: Intel core i5 6600
http://www.ebuyer.com/722915-intel-core-i5-6600-3-3ghz-socket-1151-6mb-l3-cache-retail-boxed-bx80662i56600
Gonna use the stock cooler with this as I obviously don't plan to overclock.

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB
http://www.ebuyer.com/722277-gigabyte-geforce-gtx-960-4gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-gv-n960oc-4gd
(unless it comes off sale before I can buy it, in which case I'll be getting the MSI 2GB version)

PSU: Corsair CXM 600W Semi Modular
http://www.ebuyer.com/429985-corsair-cxm-600w-semi-modular-80-bronze-power-supply-cp-9020060-uk
(a friend actually recommended me the 750W, but I'd like to save as much money as I can and it seems kinda overkill for this build?)

RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 (2x4GB)
http://www.ebuyer.com/704615-hyperx-fury-black-8gb-4gb-x2-ddr4-2133mhz-cl-14-memory-hx421c14fbk2-8

Case: CiT Spectre White
http://www.ebuyer.com/716568-cit-spectre-gaming-case-2-x-usb3-side-window-toolless-card-reader-spectre-white
(planning on custom painting the case, nothing fancy though, which is why I went for white)

I'm planning to use the HDDs from my current PC, a bit older and crappier but I can't shell out any more on this at the moment. 1x250GB WD blue and 1x500GB Seagate Barracuda, both 7200rpm. I'd love to have an SSD at some point but it's just not on the cards right now.

I would love to hear any compatibility issues I might have (though I don't think there should be any?) and any motherboard recommendations you might have! I can't spend over £100 on the mobo, I know I should probably go with a cheaper Haswell build but I'd really like to go Skylake. Ideally I'd like to spend around £75 or less for the motherboard, which might be a big ask - but I welcome opinions :)

Sorry if this is really long, I like to be thorough! Thanks! Let me know if I forgot to list anything, I most likely did. :ange:

You want an ssd. It's a huge, cheap upgrade and I would cut back on maybe the graphics card a bit to afford one. All you need is a 60gb or 120gb. You could get better prices and know your compatibility if you wanted to use pcpartpicker.com. It gives you the best prices and makes selecting parts much easier.

I'd rather not cut back on the graphics card too much in case I ever did want to get more into gaming, or my gf wanted to play heavier games. I was originally thinking a 750ti but I'd rather get something more powerful. Maybe a 950? I'd like a more decent one because of the arty side of things, in case I ever wanted to dabble in more labour-intensive stuff.

I will look at getting an SSD if it's that highly recommended, I'll have to see what I can do with my budget, thank you :)

PC partpicker doesn't always give best prices, check out CCLonline alongside pcpartpicker to compare, if you spend over £50 you get free postage and all coming from one place.

For starters, the i5 6500 will perform almost identically as the 6600 but save you over £20. http://www.ebuyer.com/722836-intel-core-i5-6500-3-2ghz-socket-1151-6mb-l3-cache-retail-boxed-bx80662i56500
That power supply is rather low quality and not one I typically recommend. This one is far better http://www.ebuyer.com/718835-evga-supernova-550-g2-power-supply-220-g2-0550-y3
Here is a review on the power supply where it got a 10/10 rating. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=440
As for the motherboard, this one will do the job and is very well priced. http://www.ebuyer.com/742976-gigabyte-ga-h110m-h-socket-lga-1151-vga-hdmi-micro-atx-motherboard-ga-h110m-h

I hadn't 100% decided where to buy from yet, so will definitely look around for better price options :) I was looking at ebuyer cos a friend was linking me to some stuff on there and I settled looking around, but I'm open to somewhere else.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations! will 550W be plenty for the PSU? I've just gotten 750 in my head because it's one of the first things I was linked to, so I need to change my thinking, ha. That one seems great in comparison though. It's a tad more than I'd like to spend but I know it's not the place to skimp, so I will look into it!
That's a great priced motherboard, thank you. I literally have no clue about motherboards, past size and socket so I was at a total loss haha. I appreciate the help!

Edit: just noticed the PSU is actually pretty much the same price as my original one, so I take that back! I'm used to looking at the £90-ish 750W.

Happy to help!
The power supply is enough. The 960 only needs a 430W to run, so this will give your room to upgrade to a better card in the future if need be and you will never have to worry about your system not having enough power.

That's great, nice relief to know I won't be overkilling it with the 750, and know I have an excellent PSU that's not gonna kill my system, haha. Thanks so much! I will go for the 550 I think :)

Thank you for asking :)
Someone mentioned above about downgrading the graphics card a little to afford an SSD. I might be able to swing an SSD and still get a 960, but I'd obviously like to save money wherever I can. Are there any graphics card a step or two down from the 960 that will do pretty much as good a job? I chose the Gigabyte 960 while it's on sale because of the 4GB over 2GB, at only £3 more than the one I was gonna go for, it was a no-brainer. But I've heard the VRAM difference is negligible anyway in a card that's not super high-end?

Since you said that you are a light gamer, the VRAM probably won't be a factor for you. Here is a 960 for a bit less money. http://www.cclonline.com/product/170113/GV-N960IXOC-2GD/Graphics-Cards/Gigabyte-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-960-2GB-Graphics-Card/VGA2795/?siteID=8BacdVP0GFs-4Xyn5lmqMYAIjeogu_kNqw

The next step down would be a 950, but that is a pretty big step down, as the 960 performs better by a fair margin. If you can afford to squeeze an ssd into your budget, this is the one I reccomend. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OCZ-Toshiba-Trion-2-5-Inch-Triple/dp/B01B4NUKUG?ie=UTF8&tag=pcp0f-21

Thank you once again! :) I'll have a look into them both! I would ideally like to stick with a 960 so I don't have to upgrade quite as quickly, and in case I ever do want to game more. I'll open up to browsing 2GB ones more if the VRAM isn't really an issue.

I think that's all I have, I really appreciate the help! Much rather have an experienced opinion than blindly choosing a lot of stuff, haha.
