Old AMD upgrade

Hey. I currently have an athlon x2 340 installed on an asus a58m-k mobo and i kind of want an upgrade.
Found an unopened x4 880k that's still in warranty for 40$.
I dont want to drop too much money on this upgrade.
Should i buy it or try and switch to an older intel platform?

What's the purpose of this upgrade? If gaming then that would be ok as long as you have a decent GPU. If you want to speed up the system then a 240gb SSD would be more beneficial.

To use the 880K make sure your BIOS is 1303 or newer.

Athlon X2 340 specifications
Supported memory: DDR3-1600

Athlon X4 880K specifications
Supported memory: DDR3-2133

Athlon X4 880K requires a minimum BIOS version of 1303.

The ddr3-2133 is a memory oc it will run with 1600 just fine.
