Question old benq moniter not working with laptop by hdmi connection, but works with a dvd player through hdmi ?

hello, i got a 2009 benq se2231 monitor/tv off a thrift store the moniter is in great condition which worked with a vga cable but unfortunaly i couldnt get it to work by hdmi on either the laptop or the ps4, but worked with a dvd player and a chromecast. the hdmi cable is working, so any clues how to get the monitor to work by hdmi with my laptop and ps4? and is there any advantage to use hdmi over vga on a 1080p monitor ?
any help is appreciated.

i could find no explanation for it not to work its really strange its in single display mode at 1080p 60hz the dvd is working on it by hdmi could it be related to the age of the monitor like the hdmi version not being supported which i never heard of.
ps; forgot to mention that the laptop is working on the tv withe the same hdmi cable.

try the monitor on another pc to see if does same thing or not.

i did try 3 other laptops and its the same thing, thanks for replying again, but is there and advantage to using hdmi over vga at 1080p 60fps?
