Question Old CAD program changes filenames to the old 8+3 format ?

I use an old electronics CAD program called CircuitMaker 2000 (not the current CircuitMaker by Altium), which, as the name suggests, was released around the turn of the millennium. I have newer programs like KiCAD but I like CircuitMaker 2000 because it is small, light and intuitive. It still works nicely in Windows 10 except for one thing:

When I double-click a saved file, it loads properly but changes the file name in the Recent Files drop-down list to the DOS-based 8+3 format. For example, it changes "09Jul24 DC only.PCB" to "09Jul2~1.PCB". It doesn't change the name in the folder.

Can anything be done to change this behaviour?

Do you have the source code for this application?
No.
If not then you've got what you've got.
I guessed as much. Oh, well.
Thanks for the reply.

CM 2000 is only 6MB before installation and less than 30MB after. It is light on resources and does everything I need it to do - draw schematics, run SPICE simulation, design multi-layer PCBs either manually or with schematic capture and auto-routing.
