My 6 year old gaming build was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago. I'd left it on while I went into the other room, came back and it was on standby. I was able to bring it out of standby but there was no longer any display. I rebooted it and nothing. It powers up, the fans turn, the lights are on but no display.

I originally thought it was a graphics card issue, but I'm thinking otherwise. The components power up - fans come on, everything seems to run the way it usually would, however I don't have to hold down the power button to switch it off, only press it, which tells me that it isn't actually booting at all.

Things I have tried:

  • Removed graphics card, tried HDMI in motherboard
  • VGA cable instead of HDMI
  • Reseated graphics card
  • Checked everything was connected properly on motherboard
  • Switched hard drive
  • Reset CMOS (both jumper and battery method)
  • Took out all but one RAM stick and alternated between them each attempt
There's nothing else I can think to do, since it's not like I can access the bios or anything just now. I'm open to suggestions or things to look out for.
