Question Old Emachines PC Possible PCU failure

As tittle suggests - I have an old PC Emachines not sure what model it is but it uses intel Celeron chip. Earlier this evening my PC stopped working completely and there was burning smell from side of PCU unit. My assumption is that PCU unit has possibly burnt out/failed completely. Is there a way I could replace PCU only to get that PC working again? There's lots of data and files on there that I do not want to loose.

Apparently it uses CPB09-D220A PCU unit - this I can't find anywhere so I am assuming other PCU units might not work with it.

Any suggestions?

This is specifically what backups are for.

What if, for instance, the drive had died rather than the PSU?

In any case....take the drive out, and connect it as a secondary to some other PC.
Either USB or an external adapter.

Do NOT attempt to boot from this drive in the other PC.

I got some hits on your power supply but have no frame of reference to visually compare. If you can locate anything about a model it could be helpful.

I post this only due to being the first hit on that model number:

Yeah I am regretting my decision of not backing my files up - I do have few files backed up on USB sticks but there is only so little you can save on them.

Looking at my PCU model it is chicony cpb09-d220a the long one compared to the usual square PCU in modern PCs. There was a burning smell coming from the side of my CPU where PCU is located after which my PC stopped functioning completely. It is not powering up at all so it is PCU that is faulty I think.

My CPU is emachines EL1850 with intel Celeron processor 450. Basically I had this PC for well over 13 years & no problems whatsoever.

I saw this on amazon but not sure whether it will work with my machine - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CX153Q7W/ref=pe_27063361_485629781_TE_item

Thanks everyone for their feedback - it was the PSU that was faulty. Ordered replacement on Amazon, arrived today - replaced it myself (it was a hassle removing old one), But all sorted and back up and running.

^ One of the first PC I ever purchased was an E Machines. Every year about Black Friday they would come out with that $99 special for the PC, K/M, monitor deal in a HUGE box. It was always a terrible situation trying to get TO one of them and make it to the checkout. Our daughter got ahold of a big foam sword in the store and was flat out just swinging it at people yelling "move". It was pretty funny.

I had one that came FREE if you signed up for a new CompuServ account.
