Old game lag and stutter

Recently I started playing battlefield 4 and it ran finely smooth on medium texture , high effects , 2x anti aliasing and I am very happy with the performance but this was not the case with battlefield 3
, it ran stuttery even on low settings and ok on medium but not as smooth as BF4.
Is this some software issue because I think BF4 is heavier than BF3 with a new game engine as well.
The auto graphics settings select ultra for BF3 and low for BF4 but on customising BF3 to low and bf4 to med-high , BF4 runs much more smoothly. Please help me on this , I want to enjoy bf3 f18 mission smoothly , it was very lagging.

try putting the settings for BF3 exactly the same as the setting on BF4 that you say is running smoothly

I have experimented many times with the settings but there is stutter not lag, I define stutter as frames skipped while sprinting or sloppy gameplay
AND lag as when I press fire , the bullet is shot after a moment ,this is not there , there is immediate response but the game stutters while turning or moving
THIS IS NOT AT ALL IN BF4 , CRYSIS3 , FAR CRY 3 I think there is some software issues
