Old GeForce Graphics Card Nvidia Go 7950 gtx

I updated to Win 8.1 and after a while the machine crashed and would not boot up with Video TDR failure nvlddmkm.sys, only doing so in safe mode. This is an old machine originally running Vista which I upgraded to Win 8 which was fine then 8.1 which wasn't. I have tried updating driver with Nvidia's latest but this is incompatible.
I tried rolling back to 8 but this was not possible, I have no discs as the upgrades were all from MSoft's site and I do not appear to have any partition with Win 8.
I have now disabled the graphics driver and managed to boot in normal mode albeit with poor resolution.
Any ideas please?

Hi
Instead of trying the latest driver from Nvidia, have you tried the latest driver from the laptop manufacturers website? (Am assuming a laptop as that is a mobile GPU).

Thanks for the suggestion, but I had tried Clevo's site and the only graphic drivers are for XP or Vista in line with the originalone.
