Old gpu prices skyrocket?

I was looking at trading out my gtx 970ftw for a 1070, and as I was looking at prices I saw that the 970 was going for 600$ or more. When six months ago I bought the mediocre card for roughly 250$ I'm pretty sure there was also a lawsuit against the 970 series???? But anywho, what's with the insane inflation from every one except the manufacturer

It's just dumb prices since stock is so low, no one actually buys them for that. You can get used ones for $150 or less
