Old hard ware dies after years no-using?

Hi everyone, I have a lot of old hardware and I want to try them today, but some of them are not working.
These are the hardware in question: 2 CPU: Celeron 500mhz, PII 400MHZ; 3 mobo: 2 soyo and a VIA.
When I put RAM and VGA card on them, the only working pair is the PII and the VIA, any other combo do not lit on the screen, only fan spins. I do the test by using minimal parts to lit, and replace them one by one, and also try them several times, always the same.
Problem is these are all working years ago before I put them in a box under my bed, so 2 mobo and a CPU die themselves?
Any thought? Thank you.

Electronics age even when not used for long periods of time. Metal parts may get corroded, capacitors etc. go bad...
They may even get static discharges depending how and where they are kept.

I still cannot believe a cpu dies itself...
My Cryix 120mhz 686 is even alive lol.
