My old Seagate HD ended up not booting up anymore, it POSTed, but then it hung and froze in the DoS looking screen before any Windows UI popped up. I forgot what the error was unfortunately. So I bought a new computer (Win8) and put the old HD from my other computer in a sleeve to use as a USB slave. However, the drive is not recognized at all, I even tried hooking it up directly as a slave on the MoBo. Nothing. Any suggestions? I need to get the files off of it, lots of baby pics, mostly backed up, but still a few not. Thanks!

When you say slave drive are you referring to using it as an extra hard drive (internally or externally) or have you set a jumper on the drive to make it a slave drive? Is it a SATA drive? Once you have the drive connected try checking the BIOS to see if it shows up there. If it does then check Disk Management to see if the drive appears there. If it does, does the drive show up as an active drive? You could also look in Device Manager to see if the drive appears there under Disk Drives.

1. Yes, I tried both internal and external slave. Didn't think about the pins, but I don't see it in BIOS recognized anyway, so that shouldn't matter should it?
2. SATA
3. Not in BIOS
4. Not in DIsk Mgmt

If you're not seeing it in the BIOS then it probably doesn't matter. However if there is a jumper for Master/Slave/Cable Select you may need to set it to Master if using as an external drive. Whether or not it has a jumper will depends on the age of the drive. What type of external enclosure are you using? Does it require an external power source or is it USB powered? I only ask because I wondering if, when connected externally, it is getting enough power. If installed internally and it is not recognized that is a different issue. Do you have another computer you can connect it to for testing purposes?

Actually, I just hooked it up as main to my new DT (as boot drive) and tied to boot it. I DID see it in BIOS and it started to boot then put up a screen that listed my computer hardware and BIOS info and then it said:
"1720-SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure.
Failing Drive: SATAO
Failing Attribute: #05.

F1 = Boot"

I then reinstalled my new drive as main, and put the old HD in the enclosure (powered enclosure) and it registered as drive G:. However, it also said the properties of drive G: were 0bytes and it was RAW. I couldn't open drive G: because it said I/O Error.

You could try Parted Magic (http://partedmagic.com/doku.php) and see if that helps. Some instructions on using it can be found here: http://html5.litten.com/how-to-fix-external-disk-drive-suddenly-became-raw/
