Old HDD on new PC

Just bought a new PC but my HDD and SSD isn't here for another week. Now I've got an old HDD laying around and I just want to use this for the time being. Hooked it all up however my bios won't detect a boot device. The HDD is a Samsung HD103SJ and the motherboard is a ITX Asus Z170i Pro gaming. The power and sata connectors are all connected anyone help me out feel abit stupid.

What OS install media are you trying to boot from?

Flash drive. I can install but I can't put it anywhere because the bios isn't recognising me hard drive .bios shows sata ports 1-4 all empty. 1tb ssd is installed on port one though

Then either the drive is actually dead, or it's not connected properly.
