Hello,

I have an older desktop that died on me. I'd like to take the HDD and install it into my newer desktop to migrate the files. Old HDD has Win 7, as long as I don't change boot info in bios I shouldn't worry about it trying to boot in the newer desktop correct?

Solution

Should be OK.
Just make sure it doesn't try to boot from the old drive.

The new PC already has its own OS?
If so, you should be OK.

I prefer using a USB SATA dock for these...you can start up this drive after the system with its own OS boots up.

Yes the newer PC has 8.1 installed on it. The old windows 7 HDD was used for my security cameras, I simply want to export my settings folder from my surveillance software, and maybe some photos.

The newer 8.1 PC has 2 drives already, an SSD with the OS and a no os 1tb drive.
