[SOLVED] Old heatsink with scratched base

I am thinking of going back to my Dark Rock Pro 3 heatsink after 6 months with a faulty loud water cooler. The heatsink has some nasty scratches at the bottom, and I am wondering if using MX-4 will get around any thermal issues.

While it is nice for the surface to be as smooth as possible using a tad bit more thermal paste should fill in the cracks but if you do have a grinder or some sandpaper that wouldn't be a bad thing to try.

You'll be fine, just clean it up the best you can.
