Old House Poor Wifi Reception

My house has old solid plaster walls. I have no wifi on part of the 2nd floor and also in the back of the house on the 1st floor.

I have a Netgear adsl2+modem and a Netgear router. What can I do to get wifi coverage in those two places?

you could get a wired antena or you could bridge together more than one wifi router

One or two wireless repeaters would extend the range of your netgear router.

What model is your netgear router? It might also be possible to add a larger/amplified antenna to it.
