Old HP monitor pluged into motherboard not working?

So I have a monitor 1920x1080p plugged into my gpu that is my main monitor and I want to use this terrible old monitor just as a twitch chat or for discord etc, when I plug it in power and VGA cable into motherboard I go to my desktop right click onto the thing where I can see my monitor rez etc and I press detect but it does not show up, the monitor does not even give a picture?

Couple possible reasons.
1. When you put in a graphics card, the motherboard video is disabled by default. You may be able to enable it in the BIOS.
2. You may have a CPU that doesn't have video hardware.

Has the motherboard video port ever worked?

okay if you have a GPU card, with a monitor already functioning, your main motherboard internal graphics adapter is probably disabled.
what you will need to do it goto Bios and in graphics, enable "automatic " or dual mode (permit vga output from main board and external PU connected.)

Yes the motherboard used to work I have now got a rx devil 480 8gb

The BIOS thing may be the issue can you explain how to find it?

Provide us with the motherboard model so that we can find a user's manual. But there should be something in the user's manual that you can research.

Intel® H81

An Intel motherboard would have more than just H81 for a model number. That is a chipset not a motherboard model.

ok the motherboard is not reporting the name properly, can you open the case and look on the board itself or a white label that would identify a motherboard model *example Asus H81-M*
