Old HP Pavilion that was zapped by a vacuum

I have an old HP Pavilion a1100y computer that was zapped by a vacuum cleaner nearly eight years ago. My current computer recently stopped working, and was hoping that maybe this old machine would work so that I would have a computer while I am waiting for the new one. I had it running, and everything was going great... until I tried to open the optical drive. The computer shut down, and won’t power back on. When I try, a couple of the fans start spinning, and you can hear the hard drive spin too, but beyond that, nothing is happening. I don’t have much experience when it comes to computers, but I was thinking it was perhaps a motherboard problem? I have enough experience to replace parts, but not enough to identify what the problem would be. I just don’t want to start taking it apart to replace the motherboard and learn it was something smaller. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Solution
Well...the first thing I would do is check the PSU voltages if you can do that. If you don't feel like doing that...you could try swapping in a PSU. These are the easiest and first things I would do.

Most of the 24-pin motherboard connector worked, however, two of the pins aside from all of the grounds had no power coming from them. The 4-pin peripheral connectors didn’t work at all... looks like I am going to have to find a spare PSU.

EDIT: Turns out that I don’t have any working PSUs in the house... I could order one online, but is it worth it?
