Old I5 3470 CPU + GTX 1060 Card Doubt

Hi everyone! Sorry if this question's already been asked before but what I would really like to know is if, basically, it's still worth upgrading my GPU if I have a 3rd gen Intel processor and LGA 1155 MOBO. My budget really DOES NOT allow me to upgrade both CPU and GPU, unless it's a 1155 socket processor and a really low-mid end graphics card.
I currently have equipped a i5 3470 3.2GHz with a 2015 ATI R9 380 (the 2Gb version, yes, I know) and I'm planning to acquire a GTX 1060 or AMD equivalent.
I don't have much cash to afford buying a last gen CPU, and because then I'd have to buy a new motherboard, new RAM, besides the fact that changing the whole system to work with that setup is an effort I'm not willing to make. I've already read in another thread that changing the CPU from a 3rd gen I5 to a 7th, 8th gen I5 isn't going to make any actual difference, other than the one in volume from my pocket.
All I wanna know is, to put it simply: Will a I5 3470 + GTX 1060 combo work well enough to not give me any stutter while playing a last gen game on high or normal graphics setting? I don't want it 60+ fps Ultra 4K res Super Sayan quality, I just want it to run well enough to not stutter while I'm playing the game. The desired resolution is 1080p 60Hz monitor.

I have an i5 3550 with a GTX 1050 3GB and it works like a charm: constant 60 fps on Wolfenstein the New Colossus 16:9 1920x1080 with HIGH settings. DOOM 2016 runs also constant 60 fps with the same config even with most settings on ultra. I think it will be a good choice. If you want a time proof upgrade go for GTX1060, if you want to add more RAM and buy a GTX 1050 it´ll be also a good choice.

Thanks man, I want to play it safe and make it future proof, especially with the next generation coming up.
