Hi,

I have a Samsung SP8004H HDD, I think I killed the PCB! When I plug it in a hear the disk start to spin but the it stops and is not recognized by the computer. I have found the same PCB online but I'm worried as the seller says I might need to "Adapted" one of the chips. As I'm in Spain and the seller is in the USA it's gonna cost me way to much to send it over to be "Adapted".

I tried using another PCB from another hard disk that looked exactly the same. After a closer look it wasn't, it was a "Victor" instead of a "Puma" It clicked a couple of times but didnt do much else.

The HDD is a Samsung 80GB SP8004H, BF41-00051A, PUMA REV.9. Do you think that I'll need it to be adapted or just by changing the PCB it will work?

Please help, its not my hard disk and I don't won't to tell a friend I killed his HDD! 🙁

EDIT: found this cheap, its the same PCB. Can you tell me which is the HDD Bios chip?

You do need an identical PCB, but what you need to do is swap the HDD BIOS chip out, which is usually an 8-pin chip on the PCB. Removing it can be simple if you have a heat gun and tweezers. The BIOS chip is what holds the specific information about your disk, including things like head location and other tiny things that vary per drive.
