I just got a new TP Link WL-1043ND router (lets just call it router) from my ISP which replaced my old Linksys WRT45GL (in future remarks lets call it repeater) router. Since WIFI signal doesn't reach living room on first floor, I want to use spare Linksys router as repeater.
What I did so far:
1. set up WIFI network on my new TP link router as Access point.
2. flashed DDWRT firmware on old Linksys router
3. On repeater I have set Wireless mode: "repeater", used the same SSID and added virtual interface with the same SSID and password as set on main router.
4. Disabled DHCP on repeater
5. Changed local IP address on repeater. If router is 192.168.0.1, repeater is 192.168.0.2
Now the following problem occurs. Whenever I change local IP of the repeater, I can't access its settings anymore. For example: Repeater was first set to 192.168.1.1 and I could easily access settings via Chrome/Firefox/whatever. When I change IP to 192.168.0.2 I can't access repeater anymore on the new local ip address.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong and I'd love to get some help from you. In worst case scenario, I'll move router to the hall, so wifi signal reaches every corner of the house, but that's the last option. I don't want to move router from my room. I know that signal repeaters exist for about 30$, but I don't want to spend any more money, since I have, not 1, but 2 spare routers.
Any ideas on fixing the issue? Few months ago, I managed to get the router-repeater network working for a few minutes, then it crashed together with router. But we'll come to that when IP address issue resolves.
