I have an early 2008 MBP that I've had unexpectected restarting issues for a while now. I've posted previously on another forum with no luck. I am tempted to ditch it, but thought I would ask here for some help first.

I use it mostly for web browsing, so it happens using firefox and chrome (don't recall it happening at other times or with other apps). I've since upgraded to 10.8.5 and it has the same problem as it did with the previous OSX version I had installed.

I have been getting kernel panic logs (for some of these restarts, but not all). I pasted an excerpt of one below.

Many thanks for your tips/ideas

Solution
Hi,

Try this;

1. Marginally defective RAM. May pass a hardware test many times yet have a bad bit here or there that never gets triggered.

2. Bad hard drive. Have you tried formatting it using Zero Data one-pass?

3. Reinstalling but skip 10.6.8 update and do not restore your Home folder or files.

thanks Vembutech! this will give me some things to try. Just to clarify, are you suggesting I go back to an earlier OS? (I have 10.8 installed now)
