Question old maxtor external hard drive with family photos

trying to access old family photos that were stored on my mothers old Maxtor external hard drive, i have no clue about external hard drive. I plugged it in, its on... and i can see its got a green light on it. my pc isnt discovering it at all, its atleast 9 years old but still works, but my pc isnt discovering it.. anyone have any clue why not

When you plug in it's mains adapter and connect it's USB cable to the PC, put your hand on the drive casing and you should be able to feel vibration of the drive spinning ---- can you feel that?

Power is one thing...data transfer is something else...

is the drive SATA, or PATA/IDE? If SATA, is it connected to a SATA port on the mainboard?

i have no idea, i know its not sata, but i plug it in with a usb, i can send a photo if u like
