old passworded pc with windows xp

my friend has a old windows xp dell that belonged to her mother that passed away, its passworded and it has a different password than the one used on her laptop. she wants the pc usable again, it has the product key on the side of the machine, its windows xp home edition but i cannot find a copy of windows xp home anywhere that i can use that key with, they dont have a disk nor do i. what are some solutions
