Old PC capabilities

just setup my old pc for fun. It's like this:

1) AMD Duron 1200MHz
2) Some Gigabyte mobo
3) 512MB Ram

I first planned to set it up with tiny core linux which was running flawless. But now I'm installing Ubuntu CLI n probably with a light desktop manager. n definitely install VLC. so tell me can I play 720p videos with SW decoder? or what else can I do? give me ideas. n please nothing like 'buy a new pc" cuz I already have 2 robust PC for gaming n all heavy stuff. It's just a test project for fun.

720P depends on codec my old laptop with AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ (Clawhammer) cannot keep up in some H264 MKV videos in this resolution
You must simply try.
