Hi! My brother acquired a new pc and today he gave his old PC, Here are the specs:

CPU: Intel i7-860
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 1600
MoBo: Intel® DP55KG
- PCIe x16 Gen 2.x
- SATA 2.0

I want to pick a newer GPU & SSD for this PC, any hints for the upgrade?

Thanks!

You can install any modern graphics card you want if you have an adequate psu.
pcie 2/3 are forward and backwards compatible, so no issue there.
Here is a nice chart:

I might suggest a GTX1050ti would be appropriate.
It needs minimal power, but you might consider something in the 550w range to allow for a future graphics upgrade.

Quality counts, try to buy a tier 1 or 2 unit from a list such as this:

A SSD is a wonderful performance upgrade; it makes everything quicker.
I like the Samsung evo devices.
Do not worry about sata 2/3; most of the benefit of a ssd is in random I/O.
A ssd will be perhaps 50x faster in...
Ye your CPU will bottleneck with anything above the GTX 950 or R7 370 though the GTX 950 does out perform the R7 370.

You will be able to stick a GTX 700 series or AMD R9 card like the 280/X-290/X GPU in.

But it all depends on your PSU like 'RobCrezz' mentioned above.

If you somehow dont have a PSU get a decent bronze rated.

Here is a rough idea for you of the different kinds of PSU's:

A ssd will be perhaps 50x faster in random and 2x faster in sequential even with sata 2.
The Samsung ssd migration tool will move your C drive to a new ssd if it is big enough to hold the used contents of the hard drive.
