Old PC with new video card for HTPC? (questions)

Hello.

When hooking up a PC to a 42" LCD TV does the speed of the computer effect the quality of the video or is it entirely dependent on the video card? I have a old P4 2.6 Ghz PC i was wondering if i could buy like a HD 6450 and hook it up to the TV using a HDMI cable to watch movies.

Any help is appreciated.

The key would be if the motherboard had a PCI-E slot available for the 6450. The CPU can play a part but I think it's mostly the video card. If the video card has hardware acceleration, then the CPU doesnt really have much effect. Note the weak atom N270 coupled with nvidia ION played video pretty well.

Thanks a lot. I don't think the motherboard even has PCI-E i will have to check it out.
