Old PC's And Antiviruses

I have an old machine Amd Athlon (tm) Processor 64 +3200 running Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32bit.I have 958MB of Ram and a integrated GPU ATI Radeon Express 200 Series.
You've probably be laghing if I say you that i play CS 1.6 CS Source and some other old games.
Let's get straight into the main theme.I've tried alot of antiviruses such as AVG, Avira, Avast, Malwarebytes and some other..., but all these antiviruses make my pc slow, lagging and sometimes the CPU fan goes like crazy!!Please help me find the antivirus that suits to me the best.Thanks to all that will answer.

I guess live with it or run with out it not only no longer supported by Microsoft its to the point no longer really supported by any one else .

pretty much any xp support today is more or less out of the goodness of there hart

I use a xp box as well for legacy stuff like games but I never put it online anymore as well and grab downloads for what I need on a up to date box and scan and transfer over to the xp rig .

even microsofts own MSE is no longer available or receiving any new definitions or support fiorm Microsoft . but may run better if you find the download for it , but I guess it will be out of date

i'll also assume that old CPU platform just is not strong or fast enough to keep them programs running in the background anyway may best just do a daily or weekly full scan or as needed instead

Comodo or ESET will run off 512mb RAM the issue here is XP will use the rest which still makes the system slow. You need to upgrade the RAM to the MAX if possible because everything on 1GB is going to be slow. The only other option is to replace XP with a Light weight Linux distro and then you don't have to worry about viruses as much. XP was like a piece of Swiss cheese, it had more backdoor than you could plug.
