Old rig with better performance?

Hi all,

I have a friend who owns an old rig with an i7-5820k clocked at 3.3Ghz with a Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce and he is actually getting more frames than I am on Fortnite.

I have a R7 2700X clocked at 3.9Ghz with an MSI 1060 6Gb OCV1 (see signature for full build).

Both rigs were tested on the same 1080p 144hz Monitor.

Now I'm not jealous or anything but I am genuinely curious as to how this is the case? Is Intel's single core performance just THAT much better than Ryzen? Or does the triple fan on the windforce makes his GPU more efficient somehow?

He's not very savvy when it comes to this stuff so I know his GPU hasn't been overclocked and I'm sure he knows the difference between an 980 and a 970 so I'm pretty sure this build is correct.

Any explanations or are you as puzzled as I am?
