Old Server as desktop

Have inherited old server from my work and would like to use it to replace my desktop which has died. Is win server 2003' so far it won't connect tominternet and I think this is because I only know network password and not password for that particular computer. Could I fix this by installing new os eg vista?

You need to resolve that password issue before trying to go further with the machine and we don't offer password assistance here. Ask the company for it then establish if it is in a domain. if it is, you need to demote it to a normal domestic Workgroup. You could wipe the machine clean and install Vista or one of the more up-to-date Windows systems but it's best to check the driver situation first to make sure you can find them. XP would work because it's a close cousin to Server 2003 - almost a brother in fact. What is the make and model?
