I'm basically trying to just pull the ssd from current computer and just plug it into a new computer, does that work? like will it just boot up like the old one or is there something I have to do in between?

Unless all the "drivers" are the same, it will probably give you problems.
If the Chipset driver for the HDD is incorrect it will not boot.

When moving a "OS" drive to new computer with differnet MB - It is BEST to re-install the oS.

And Yes it's fine to move a "old" SSD to a new system.

the os is retail copy

driver won't be the same because it's switching from 990fx to z77 mb so best to install fresh?

also the storage drive would that be fine just plugging into the new system? or have to install as well?

edit: also for everything else that is installed on the os drive will have to be reinstalled as well? (ie. java, adobe stuff, mse, etc.)
