Old tower New monitors

Not sure if this is the right section but I had to choose a subsection and this is the closest. Okay so this is a little hard to explain but here goes. I have been given a tower by a firend of mine in order to empty the hard drives. The issue is, I cannot get a monitor to work on it. I have tried a VGA monitor and a DVI to HDMI cable to try and get some sort of signal but neither are working. I also don't seem to hear any beeps on startup. No keyboard lights, Nada. The keyboard and mouse I'm using are not the original ones. Not sure on the specs of the tower but it's model is HP-Pavilion NC853AA-ABG p6020a. Any other info needed please let me know. TIA
