Old video cards with new drivers

I have a GF2 MX400 64MB with 44.03 driver, and the only "problem" I have is when I play Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 wich goes slower, like in litle jumps not smoothly, I don't know how to put that in writing. So, I have to change the driver for an older version, for example 29.42.
Freelancer, AOM, MOHAA, GTA3 it all works fine with the 44.03.
So, point is:
New drivers are made only for new cards? Not only based on my video card nVidia but also ATI.
And the "little jumps" are normal or is it just happening to me?

my R9700pro running under W98se on a clean install with Dx9b & the latest drivers (official & omega) cause me loadsa BSODs... I have to go back to Cat 3.2s to be stability again

sometimes older is better...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

The 44.03's were good drivers for all the GeForce cards. You should grab the new 45.23's from Nvidia's website though, they work really good too...

I think the extra power a driver can get out of a card reaches a limit, and TBH I think on the GF2 MX that would be around the 30.72's. If theyre not getting you any better performance or features I think you should just leave them at the 29.42's

I haven't seen ANY improvement in drivers for the GeForce2 cards since the 6.x series. Yes, you've heard me right, 6.x, as in drivers released YEARS ago. The newer drivers concentrate on improving the performance of newer features on newer cards. nVidia doesn't care about you, your card isn't making them money.
