I know that there can be a big difference between 1080p and 1080i but with the screen at only 22" will it be noticeable? Should I upgrade as soon as I can or can this monitor compare to some of the others on the current market?

Solution
Although your monitor is "only" 1680x1050 (16x10), you won't notice huge improvement if you move to 1920x1080 (16x9), especially if your main use is productivity vs gaming. To see an improvement, you should bump size as well (eg 24") together with resolution bump.
