Hello I have an older mobo and i recently placed an order (on newegg of course :) ) for a Corsair ValueRam 1Gb (2x512) Dual Channel CL2.5 kit

What I am wondering is if my Mobo will support Dual channel:

I'm not sure where my manual is atm...

It isn't on Newegg and I have googled it but there wasn't anything that clearly said "supports dual channel" so I'm not sure...

here is my motherboards' specs

MoBo

like i said im not sure where to look here to figure out if its dual channel supported or not

As mpilchfamily said, it isn't the ram that makes it dual channel, but the controller. The memory controller in this case is in the northbridge, the 848P. Here is what Intel says about the 848P.

http://developer.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-017336.htm

The Intel® 848P chipset is nearly identical to the Intel® 865PE chipset except it has single-channel DDR memory instead of dual-channel DDR memory.

Unless this feature was somehow added, your motherboard does not support dual channel memory. I'm also not sure what mpilchfamily ment by lack of support of dual channel memory with S478 boards, as the 865 and 875 chipsets both supported dual channel memory configurations. (and there are plenty of motherboards out there that have those chipsets.

Socket 478 motherboard generaly don't have any dual channel support. I think it's funny that manufactures label the RAM as dual chennel. It really has nothing to do with the RAM. If you use 2 of the same size sticks of RAM with simmilar timings it will run in dual chennel as long as the motherboard supports it.

well i knew that the ram had nothing to do with dual channel compatibility (as long as its not manufactered slightly differently)

anyways thanks for the info now that im done with purchasing this last componet for my old AGP system its full speed ahead for a PCIe/LGA775 Gaming system!
