Hi all,
Shot in the dark here, but I'm always up for a challenge.
I have an older AMD based system (FX8350 8-core) which isn't used for much other than web browsing, spreadsheets, and managing an itunes library. Has 8GB ram, 512GB SSD (50% free), 1TB data drive. ASUS M5A88-M motherboard. Corsair CX430 430W power supply.
It has been struggling since a Windows 10 upgrade. It has trouble booting at times (will some times get a blinking cursor before the Windows boot screen comes up, will even get the disk error prompt before the Windows boot screen some times as well).
But what's most annoying is that Windows takes about 5-10 minutes to "warm up". Meaning, the PC will freeze for a minute or two and then free up, and repeat this for a while until it gets going. Once it gets going, it's generally fine until next reboot. Some times it will start this before I select my profile and enter my password, sometimes after when the desktop appears.
The system was originally on a 250GB SSD which was cloned to a 512 GB under Windows 7. It was later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. The trouble really started after the Windows 10 upgrade.
Is there any hope of figuring out what is causing the boot troubles and delays? And if so, what utilities can I use to help? Can't even get in to Task Manager while it's lagging to see what's going on.
I've done some basics - CHKDSK, Malwarebytes, cleaned up disks, latest updates etc. - no luck. I've turned off much of the startup programs, including Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Have uninstalled many programs as well.
Thanks in advance.
