Hello everyone,

My computer is kind of an older system, it handles all my games, except for Fallout 4, and Far Cry Primal. I have an old card, Geforce 8800GTS 640MB with 8 gb of ddr2 memory, 1TB hard drive, AMD Phenom II X6 1035T processor, a Giganyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Micro ATX motherboard, and a 650 watt power supply.

Now, I'm trying to decide weather to give this system a complete overhaul, or ditch it and get a ps4.

I would need a new motherboard, video card, DDR3 ram, and possibly a new processor. I don't mind AMD or Intel, but currently on a budget, so my options are limited.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Looking to spend around $350

honestly, if you don't mind playing on a console, just get a PS4
a complete overhaul would be around 700-1000$ (also how do you run Far Cry Primal on THAT GPU?)
you could upgrade your GPU but I don't think it's really worth it compared to a PS4.
if you're only looking to game titles on the PS4 and the restrictions don't bother you.

Hey if you upgrade your Geforce 8800GTS you would be able to play fallout 4 I think your system still has life left people have played fallout 4 on a Pentium 4 672 but your limitation is the GPU I was cleaning out my closet and I found my old phenom ii x4 830 computer I forgot I even had I have my old gtx 780's laying around so I put one of them in the system and I was able to play Crysis 3 and BF4 with no problem at all just by putting a better GPU in this old system gave it new life and I know building a new computer could get expensive so I'm going to give my closet computer away to my nephew because he's starting to get into pc gaming. So I see nothing wrong with working with what you have and when you do build a new computer you could use some parts from your current system to save money until you Finnish building it like buying a new motherboard,CPU and ram but using your Gpu untill you buy a new one.

Ok the last video I found interesting and good it's titled Can You Build a Gaming Rig with a Phenom in 2016?

I don't mind reusing old parts, and yes building a PC can get very expensive. lol. The six core processor is still enough to run today's titles, but I'm worried about being bottle necked by DDR2 ram. I have a 4gb stick of ddr3 in my parts bin, but would need a compatible board to go with. As far as the GPU, I found out that the min requirements for Fallout 4 is a GTX 550 or higher. There's a 650ti for 75 plus shipping on eBay. Or I could go the AMD route and get this: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-R7-360-2GD5-OC/dp/B00ZGF0TQY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8, it's $104.99

Here are the minimum Fallout 4 PC requirements:

Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent.
8 GB RAM.
30 GB free HDD space.
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent.

The problem is Fallout 4 is a Direct X 11 game, and my card is DX 10, it crashes immediately after launching.

DDR3 is not that much faster than DDR2 realistically you wont see that big a difference. DDR3 uses less power and that means less heat

DDR3 1600MHz CAS 9 9/1600*2000 = 11.25ns
DDR2 800MHz CAS 5 5/800*2000 = 12.5ns

if you have 8gb of ddr2 ram and 4gb of ddr3 ram I would go with the 8gb of ddr2 because my games will run much better and when it come to Gpu I always buy the best one I could afford and MSI R7 360 could run fallout 4 you just need to buy a Dx11 or Dx12 gpu and you'll be fine

What about the 750ti? Is it better than the r7 360 in terms of performance?

On a side note, found an old GTS 450 laying around, would it be worth it to save the money for a new rig, and just use that card? I think it's Direct X 11.

Here's Fallout 4 Running on a GTS 450,

The Gts 450 is a DirectX 11 GPU and it will allow you to save money faster because you won't have to spend anything for a quick upgrade and you'll be able to play fallout 4 but if you do spend some money the R7 360 and the Gtx 750ti are both great value cards but the GTX 750ti is definitely the more powerful of the two.

Fallout 4 requires a card with 2gb VRam or higher, my GTS 450 has 1gb of ram, will the game perform poorly, including lagging and crashing?

Update: Some emergency expenses came up, now I got $50 to spend on a gpu. I have a choice between the GTX 550Ti 1gb, or the Geforce GT 640 2gb.

The 640 has the required 2gb of ram to play Fallout 4, but the 550ti is faster, need help deciding, please..

Thanks so much, your a life saver!
