How did this happen? In D1 i was a ranged attacker. In D2 I was a ranged
attacker. In LOD, I was... a ranged attacker. In every game I've played
I've been a ranged attacker or preferred that style of play.

So WoW comes out and I want to be a ranged attacker with a bow. So I make a
Rogue. Turns out Rogues are some of the most brutally effective melee
characters in the game. Spellcasters and ranged attackers 4 levels above
me actively recruit me to tank and to get down in the trenches with my huge
Critical Strike bonuses.

I've turned into a whirlwind barb somehow...


Anex......Explodeazon, and yet I STILL kick butt with a bow too!

Must this game be played on line or can it be played solo at home or on a

World of warcraft is online only. Also, it has a monthly fee .

Maybe they recruit you for humor... look close:

Use a bow to *fire* *arrows*; use *boots* to kick butt. OK?

I'm playing a rogue and use a throwing knife a lot. Doesn't do much
damage, but it lets me keep my distance and attract Malevolent Slime
Worms, or whatever, over to where I'm hiding -- only to be dispatched
with my Sinister Strike and Evisceration. I played a Necro in LOD and
just naturally like to slink around and hide. (-8

And what ever you do, don't accidently use your fishing pole like ...
someone I know did... it doesn't do much damage.

Man, I took a lot of needless damage because of throwing weapons. They just
don't have the kick they should have. Thottbot.com lists only a couple of
elite ones that are even close in power, speed or range to even a merchant
bought gun or bow. Even throwing weapon specialization doesn't help a lot.
I think throwing weapons are there to get you out of the lower levels until
you can train in guns or pick up a juicy bow. At level 30 I can critical
strike for almost 200 points with a run of the mill bow. Even the best
throwing weapon I've seen yet only lets me crit for around 130 🙁

Anex......Explodeazon, throwing weapons in WoW now are what they were in D2
back in 1.08. But maybe they'll change that.

that was confusing, wasn't it.

I purposely wanted a bow charachter. So I pick a Rogue. But they can use
swords up close for melee, so I find the best swords I can. Turns out
duel-wielding sword/dagger Rogues are the WoW equivalent of the old
Whirlwind LanceBarb build back in the 1.04 D2 day. Go figure.

Aah, then you should have gone hunter - they are the only class that
can get enough damage out of ranged weapons to use them as their main
weapon. And they also get a pet that can help them keep the mobs out
of their ranged weapons minimum range.

Thought about a hunter...but I've always hated playing with minions. I
think it's a mental block from when my first Poison Necro back in d2 took
like 4 months to level up from level 5 to level 5.5

Anex......Explodeazon, hunters are very cool though. Not as cool as
Warlocks and their succubus pets though (oooh mama!).
