On a budget. Spending max 500 CAD

I have i5-4460 and want to get a new gpu. I think I will be fine with my current cpu (am I though?). I need to spend no more than 500 CAD for a new gpu and if there are money left I could benefit from a new processor too. Mobo is ASUS h81m-e. Planning to get another ram stick too (saw one selling for 60cad on amazon same model as mine since I heard mixing up is not a good idea)

My current gpu is a 760 oem 3GB version from ASUS

What resolution do you use? If you are at 1080p/60 hz monitor only you could simply get a RX 480/GTX 1060/GTX 970 and run everything with maxed settings. Only with a higher resolution and/or refresh rate would it be interesting to consider a more expensive GPU.

Yeah only 1080p. Does it matter if I get a 144hz sometime in the future? I don't plan on 2k or 4k

I used to run a single 970 with 144hz and it worked great. I can run everything on high. I added a 2nd 970 for more performance and so I can run Overwatch in epic.

I would get a 970 or 1060 and add one more down the line if needed.

Yeah but will my cpu be limited?

a 4460 is a decent CPU. See video below of Far Cry 4 on ultra. This rig has a 970 and a 4460

I will get a 480 or 970 then. See which is cheaper and I will go

No, your CPU will be able to push any single GPU to its limits. On 1080p it will perform more than good enough. If you want a higher refresh rate monitor you could consider a beefier GPU, in my opinion a RX 480/GTX 1060 would not be worth it if getting a 144 hz 1080p monitor. In most games you would not be able to max out settings and still get a high refresh rate.

As of now at 1080p the best price/performance GPU would be the RX 480, if you can get one that is. The GTX 1060 peforms a bit better but costs more (and is also a bit hard to buy still). Both can go well beyond 1080p and 60hz, which would be your limit already if you have a 1080p monitor, same goes for a 75 hz monitor.

I am planning to play cs go at 144hz. Other game I do not care much.

I play CSGO at 144hz with no problems. Your CPU and a 970 will be able to run at 1080, 144hz and it will run lag free. You will be set.
