So for a simple PC that is only going to be used for word and homework, will the on board graphics vega 11 work fine?

yes. igpu work fine for word and homework.

Even for things like watching HD video, browser games, light demand 1080p or lower PC games and minor projects with graphics applications, the Vega graphics would work totally fine.
