[SOLVED] On-board LAN seems to not exist

I have an AsRock H97 Anniversary motherboard and there seems to be no evidence of a LAN device even though it has one. Its not in device manager, its not hidden, its not an unknown device.
I've tried installing and updating different drivers but nothing has fixed the issue. quite confused

A had an ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer that I received for free. Same issue , port was there , but nothing would detect it. Ended up buying a card for it. Still running in the basement as a secondary setup.

what a coincidence i also received this motherboard for free and am going to use it as a secondary setup lol. I'm going to try and update the BIOS, see if that fixes all my problems.

Maybe it was free for a reason.

seems that reinstalling the OS fixed the issue.
