Onboard Audio dead? Solutions?

I'm suffering from some issues with my computer's ability to process sound.

I'm using a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with onboard audio. According to Windows, I am constantly plugging and unplugging a pair of headphones. When I install the audio drivers for the board, it's constantly bringing up the control program.

I'm pretty certain my onboard audio is fried- so how do I work around it?

You can try reinstalling Windows and if still same issues, an option would be a PCIe audio card.

Well i doubt the onboard audio is just dead there is probably some kind of software issue i would make sure your getting the correct drivers for your motherboard from asus's website and re install them. If that doesn't work i guess you could buy a sound card.

That's where I got the drivers. And I have tried reinstalling Windows as well.

I actually have a PCI Audio card that I know fits on the board, but
1. I don't have space for both it and my wifi card, which I need with my current setup
2. I don't know how to configure it so that the computer uses the spare card and ignores the onboard card and its driver software, which is currently making my computer unusable with its constant intrusion.

There are also USB to AUDIO adapters if you have a free USB port. Harder to find than a sound card, but probably a lot cheaper.

In BIOS, Advanced Mode, Advanced, Onboard Devices Configuration, SB HD Azalia Configuration, set HD Audio Azalia Device to Disabled.
Uninstall all audio drivers, then restart and install the audio card drivers.
